Your data migrations now show you exactly what's happening, ask before they change anything, and keep a full record of who did what - no matter how big the files you throw at them.

Data migration has always been a black box: you upload your files, something whirs away, and you hope. Over the past week we've rebuilt that experience around a simple idea - you should never have to wonder what your migration is doing, and it should never change something without you.

What's new

  • Your files, read faithfully. We overhauled how Vern reads CSV and export files: unusual delimiters, mixed encodings, and multi-line text inside quotes are all handled correctly now. What you see in a preview is exactly what's in your file.

  • A migration that talks to you. No more frozen "Working…" screens. Every run shows its live status, surfaces its questions the moment it has one, and when your data disagrees with a template's format rules, you get clear side-by-side choices - Update Template or Update Plan - with a review-everything-then-apply flow and a pre-written reply ready to send.

  • Change templates mid-migration. Ask for a format to be enforced ("phone numbers should be xxxx-xxx-xxx") or a brand-new column to be added, and Vern proposes the exact template change for your approval - asking clarifying questions first if the details are ambiguous. Approve it and the migration picks up right where it left off, memory intact.

  • A full audit trail. Every import's history now records who started it, who adjusted templates (and exactly what changed), who approved the plan, and when it finished - laid out as a clean timeline you can search and filter by teammate, date, and company.

  • Guard rails while a migration runs. Source knowledge and templates connected to an active migration are locked from editing until it finishes, so nothing shifts underneath a running import. A clear indicator tells you why, and everything unlocks automatically the moment the run settles.

Why it matters

Migrations are the highest-stakes moment in onboarding a customer. This release means your team can see every run's status at a glance, steer it mid-flight without starting over, and answer "who changed that?" with a timeline instead of a shrug.

All of this is live today for every Vern workspace, in every region.
